What is cyber security? (explained for kids)
Cyber security means protecting computers, phones, accounts and personal information from people who want to steal or misuse them. Just as you lock your front door, cyber security is about locking your digital life — with strong passwords, careful clicking and smart sharing.
10 cyber safety tips every child should know
- Use long passwords (a short sentence works well) and never share them with friends
- Turn on two-step verification wherever you can
- Never share your full name, school, address or phone number with strangers online
- Think before you click — links in unexpected messages can be traps (phishing)
- Only download apps and games from official stores
- Keep your device and apps updated
- Don’t accept friend requests from people you don’t know in real life
- If something online makes you uncomfortable, tell a parent or teacher straight away
- Remember: anything you post can be copied and stay online for ever
- Be kind online — report cyberbullying instead of joining in
