Championship overview
The Basic Line Following Robot Championship is TechRadiance’s popular and dynamic robotics competition, part of its series of National-Level Championships. Students design, build and program autonomous robots that navigate a marked track by sensing and following a continuous line, competing against the clock on a dedicated race arena.
Runs are time trials, and robots operate fully autonomously: no remote control or manual help once a run begins. It brings together sensor calibration, control-logic programming and mechanical design in one high-energy contest.
Key highlights
- 500+ students and 100+ teams expected
- Certificate of Participation from TechRadiance, in association with E-Cell, IIT Delhi
- Prizes worth up to ₹10,00,000 for winning teams
- Fully autonomous, sensor-guided robots in timed runs
- Builds logical thinking, precision engineering and sportsmanship
Two days, two levels of challenge
Day 1 tests accuracy, speed and reliability. Day 2 adds tighter curves, junctions and gaps.
Qualifying stage
- One robot per team, run individually on the qualifying track
- Teams participate with their own competition-compliant line following robot, as per guidelines
- Complete the track in the shortest time while staying on the line
- Robots stay inside the marked track boundary
- Damaging or interfering with another robot or the track is prohibited
Ranking: completion time, track deviations, line-loss recoveries, penalties, then a tie-break if required. The highest-performing teams advance.
Knockout stage
- One finalist robot runs at a time on the final track
- Tighter curves, junctions, gaps and intersections
- Earn challenge points for obstacle handling, gap crossing or stopping at a junction
- Losing the line or leaving the track can cost points
- Touching, repositioning or remote help during a run attracts penalties
The highest final score progresses to the International Finale. Ties may go to a tie-break run.
Entry fee
₹3,999₹2,999 Limited-time price
per team of up to 5 students, inclusive of GST. Same fee for both rounds.
For 1st to 3rd rank holders or Merit Certificate holders from the TechRadiance Zonal Rounds.

The track
A continuous black line, about 2–3 cm wide, on a white background, with straights, curves, sharp turns, junctions and gaps. The Final track adds intersections and discontinuities to test line recovery.
Full track dimensions and layout diagrams will be shared with registered teams ahead of the event.

Rules
Robot behaviour
- The robot must be fully autonomous. Wireless or remote control (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/RC) during a run is not permitted.
- It must sense and follow the line using onboard sensors only: no external guidance, GPS or pre-mapped coordinates.
- Manual or Radio Control (RC) operation is not permitted.
- PID programming is not permitted.
Materials and construction
- Allowed robotic, mechanical and electronic components may be used, provided the robot meets all specifications and safety requirements.
- All materials must be safe, non-toxic and non-hazardous.
- No sharp, pointed, cutting or abrasive parts that could damage the track or another robot.
- The robot must be primarily the team’s original work. Ready-made robots, including LEGO and pre-programmed kits, are not permitted.
- Commercial components may be used individually within the team’s own design.
Conduct and authority
- Judges may disqualify any team whose conduct is found to be unfair.
- The organizers may modify any or all of these rules as necessary.
Team guidelines
- Bring everything you need: robots, laptop, chargers, cables, hardware, tools and batteries. Spares may be bought at the on-site desk, subject to stock.
- Teams have up to 5 members.
- Register online through the TechRadiance website.
- Have a robot ready, built as guided in workshops or to the published specifications.
Team video recognition
- Prepare a 1 to 5 minute video, maximum 100MB, showing readiness, creativity or enthusiasm.
- Share it at contact@techradiance.in (Google Drive or WeTransfer) or WhatsApp +91-7015568312 / +91-9667137548, with team and school name.

A line follower robot competition is an exciting robotics event where students create and program robots that follow a line along a track. Teams test how quickly and accurately their robots handle turns, junctions and changing paths.
It is a fun way for young learners to master the fundamentals of robotics, such as sensors, programming, problem-solving and collaboration. Participants show their creativity, build technical skills and compete with other young innovators, which makes robotics easy to understand in a practical way.
