What is an ATL lab?

An Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) is a hands-on innovation workspace in a school where students of classes 6–12 build projects with electronics, robotics, sensors, IoT, 3D printing and basic tools. ATLs are part of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and selected schools receive government funding to set them up. Read our full guide: What is an Atal Tinkering Lab?

Many schools are selected for ATL — or want to build an ATL-style tinkering lab with their own budget — but need a partner to choose the right equipment, set up the space and, most importantly, keep the lab active with a curriculum and trained mentors. That is what Techradiance does.

Our ATL lab setup services

1. Site visit & lab layout

We visit your school, measure the room and plan zones for electronics, robotics, 3D printing, tools and a project display area, keeping safety and seating for 30–40 students in mind.

2. AIM-compliant equipment

We supply equipment matched to the ATL equipment list: development boards, sensor kits, robotics kits, 3D printer, drone kit, IoT kits, hand and power tools, and safety gear.

3. Installation & furniture

Workbenches, storage, wiring, branding and display boards are installed so the lab is ready for students on day one.

4. Teacher training

We train your ATL in-charge and teachers to run sessions, handle equipment safely and mentor student projects.

5. Curriculum & trainer support

A class-wise activity plan (classes 6–12) with weekly sessions, plus an optional full-time Techradiance trainer at your school.

6. Competitions & reporting

We prepare students for ATL Marathon, hackathons and our own Robotics Championship, and help you keep the activity records AIM asks for.

How the ATL setup works

  1. Consultation — tell us your school, classes and budget (government grant or self-funded).
  2. Site visit & proposal — layout drawing, equipment list and a clear quote.
  3. Delivery & installation — equipment and furniture installed and tested.
  4. Training — teacher training and an orientation session for students.
  5. Run the lab — curriculum, projects, competitions and ongoing support.

ATL lab setup cost

Under the Atal Innovation Mission, a selected school can receive a grant of up to ₹20 lakh over 5 years — typically an initial amount for setting up the lab and the rest for running costs such as consumables, maintenance and activities. Always check the latest terms on the official AIM website.

If your school is not selected, you can still build an ATL-style tinkering lab with your own budget. The cost depends on room size, number of students and the equipment you choose. Techradiance curates every ATL package to your school’s budget — from a compact starter tinkering lab to a complete AIM-standard lab — so you only pay for what your students will use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is ATL lab setup?

ATL lab setup is the process of planning, equipping and launching an Atal Tinkering Lab in a school — room layout, AIM-compliant equipment, furniture, installation, teacher training and a curriculum so students can start building projects.

Who is eligible for an Atal Tinkering Lab?

Schools with classes 6 to 12 — government, government-aided and private — can apply under the Atal Innovation Mission when applications are open. See how to apply for ATL.

How much funding does the government give for ATL?

Selected schools can receive up to ₹20 lakh over five years under AIM, covering lab setup and running costs. Check aim.gov.in for the current terms.

How much space is needed for an ATL lab?

AIM guidelines suggest a room of roughly 1,000–1,500 sq ft. Smaller schools can start with a compact layout; we plan the space during the site visit.

Can a school set up an ATL without the government grant?

Yes. Many schools build an ATL-style tinkering lab with their own budget. We offer packages for different budgets and can upgrade the lab later.

What equipment is used in an ATL lab?

Electronics and development boards, sensors, robotics kits, IoT kits, a 3D printer, drone kits, mechanical and power tools, and safety equipment. See the full ATL equipment list.

Do you provide trainers for the ATL lab?

Yes. We train school teachers and can also place a Techradiance trainer at your school to run weekly ATL sessions.
